The Light of Day
As the sun illuminates the world from above, this handspun copper glass glows from within, its interior fully silver-gilded, like the soft radiance of daylight reflecting off still water. The silver inside catches and amplifies light, much like how the midday sun fills spaces with warmth and clarity.
A vessel for rituals, wedding traditions, and sacred water offerings, this glass carries the glow of the day—bright, luminous, and full of presence.

Craft Techniques
- Handspun
- Forging and annealing
- Hammering "Thoka"
- Tamrind pickling
- Silver brushing "varak"
The glass is formed by hand spinning, its elegant shape emerging through annealing and sun soaking, strengthening the metal before the intricate layering of vermeil silver begins. The silver envelops the exterior like moonlight on water, smooth and luminous, while the untouched copper within preserves the warmth of the maker’s hands.

Materials
Copper (99% Pure Copper)
At Amaldhatu, we use 99% pure copper, chosen for its unmatched luster, durability, and ability to develop a rich patina over time. Sourced from responsible suppliers, our copper sheets are carefully inspected for uniform grain structure, ensuring they respond beautifully to techniques like hand-spinning, hammering, and brushing. Each finish—whether the subdued elegance of matt brush, the linear sheen of polished striations, or the textural depth of mataarkaam—enhances copper’s natural brilliance. Our selection prioritizes minimal impurities, ensuring longevity while embracing the evolving beauty of aged copper, making every piece a living testament to time-honored craftsmanship.
Silver (99.5% Silver for Gilding & Detailing)
We use 99.5% silver for our gilding and embellishments, ensuring a perfect balance between purity and strength. The silver must exhibit exceptional adhesion properties for vermeil applications, allowing it to bond seamlessly with copper for enduring brilliance. Every silver-gilded detail is chosen for its resistance to tarnishing, developing a patina that complements the warm glow of copper. Ethically sourced and meticulously applied, our silver detailing transforms functional objects into luminous heirlooms, elevating their aesthetic and symbolic significance.

Our Objects are presented in a handcrafted pine wood box, inspired by the Sandook, the traditional Indian chest used for safeguarding heirlooms and precious artifacts. Historically crafted from solid wood and reinforced with brass or iron, the Sandook was a symbol of preservation, ensuring that valuables were passed down through generations.
Reinterpreted for a contemporary context, our pine wood boxes retain the essence of this legacy while embracing a minimalist aesthetic. The natural grain of the wood is left visible, echoing the raw beauty of timeworn chests. Subtle finsihing of the edges, refining the smoothness of the surface are a nod to the intricate craftsmanship once seen in royal and household Sandooks, adding a refined yet understated elegance. The box is secured with a woven cotton or silk cord, reminiscent of ceremonial ties, reinforcing the significance of the objects within.
Designed not only for safekeeping but also for an elevated gifting experience, these handcrafted boxes preserve the artistry of Amaldhatu while paying homage to India’s rich tradition of craftsmanship.
